HIP SHAKIN’

By Amy Winn

If you see only one burlesque show this year, the final date of the Burlesque-A-Pades Tour Sunday at Joe’s Pub should be it. In addition to the usual corps of hoochie-coochie cuties, there will be sideshow acts, live music, acrobatics and a rock ’n’ roll accordion.

The World Famous Pontani Sisters dreamed up and helm the 12-city tour through the Midwest and will also dance up a storm in several routines. Joining them are the hilarious duo from Baltimore, Trixie Little and the Evil Hate Monkey; the marvelous hula-hooping of NYC’s Miss Saturn; and Los Angeles’ Kitten de Ville, whose G-strings are helpless against her astounding hip-shaking power. Rather than performing to the usual canned tunes, the B-girls will be accompanied by the Fisherman Xylophonic Orchestra. Charismatic sideshow specimen Tyler Fyre will host and perform several acts of questionable safety, and accordion-rocker Corn Mo brings his irresistible genre-blending genius. To burlesque scenesters, this lineup may sound familiar, but the latest iteration features a few tweaks and new routines. Plus, it’s a clever, sexy and darn funny effort by some of the best in the biz.
