There are stars and there are talents. Sometimes these categories overlap; often they don't. Angie Stone is a talent yet excepting her prominent solo debut, Black Diamond, Stone has hovered beneath all but fervid neo soul fans radars. Her two follow up albums, 2001's Mahogany Soul, and 2004's Stone Love expanded her catalogue without substantially enhancing her fame, which is likely of little concern to the veteran vocalist and producer. After her big break as a member of ’80s sequined rap trio Sequence, Stone has primarily worked behind the scenes as a songwriter, arranger, producer or backing vocalist with artists like Buckwheat Zydeco, Lenny Kravitz, Joss Stone and her ex-boyfriend D'Angelo (with whom she has an adolescent son). She's toured extensively, so expect a polished performance culled from her recent greatest hits album and maybe even a few guest appearances from her extended soul and hip-hop family. Stone exhibits an uncommon exuberance on stage and truly seems to enjoy making music.
