Ah, the ’70s: a time of passion, rebellion and conviction. Or, long hair, drugs and sex. Oh wait, that’s now. If you’ve got a jonesin’ for a groovier age when everyone seemed to glide through life to the tune of the Bee Gees, then check out P.S.1’s 30th Anniversary Roller Disco. While Studio 54 was celebrating life (and death) through dance, P.S.1 was celebrating it through contemporary art. Back in 1976 when the museum opened, art was a medium through which to raise social and political awareness; it represented the best of the ’70s. Now P.S.1 will take you back, via the dance floor, to when it all began. DJ Spun, Duane Harriott and Jeannie Hopper provide the tunes, all you have to worry about are your threads. You’ll need a valid government issued photo ID to get in so make sure your jumpsuit has pockets. After all, you will be going back to a time when everyone was a little more paranoid—but for different reasons. I think the king of disco, Tony Manero, said it best: “You know what I wanna do? Strut.” Yeah man, strut.
July 18. The Roxy, 515 W. 18th St. (betw. 11th & 12th Aves.), 212-727-0108; 8-midnight, $30 tickets, $5 skate rental.
