FIRED FOR BEING OFF COLOR

By Kari Milchman

Apparently, Mayor Bloomberg, you can fire someone for things they do outside the office. Chris Macchia, 22, an investigator on the Civilian Complaint Review Board, was let go for posting racial slurs on his MySpace.com account. See, it’s not just all the pervs making social networking sites increasingly dangerous places. Evidently, Macchia had argued with a trucker in real life and, like most people with no better outlet through which to vent their rage, subjected his friends to it online, referring to the guy as a “truck driver n—r.” The page was brought to the attention of NYPD Rant, a message board favored by pissy cops, who proceeded to contact the CCRB with complaints—perhaps out of a real sense of umbrage or perhaps in retribution for Macchia’s choice of profession (the CCRB is an organization that reviews peoples’ complaints against the police). Either way, the space is once again safe from trucker-haters and worse.
