SUMMER HIJINX

Vandalism, robbery and arson were the means by which two Bronx teens chose to show their frustration over losing their summer jobs at an apartment complex. The pair of 14-year-olds lost their jobs on August 10, and, last week, security officials at the complex reported to fire officials that two cars on the property had been vandalized. According to fire officials, the teens, caught on security cameras, admitted to vandalism and to robbing an 86 year-old tenant of Co-Op City. The teens told the fire officials that they committed the robbery because they didn’t want their parents to find out that they had been fired—the money they stole was to be used as evidence of their employment. However, their victim turned out to have only $6 in her purse, so the teens charged $1,000 on her credit cards. The duo is facing a range of charges including arson, mischief, forgery and grand larceny. No word on what their parents have to say about that.

A group of women from New Jersey caused another sort of stir on Friday while carousing in New York City. A lewd comment—the details of which could not be determined—directed at the group led 19 year-old Patreese Johnson to pull a knife on Wayne Buckles, police said. Johnson’s friends, ranging from 18 to 31, allegedly contributed to the attack with punches and kicks. Police arrived at the scene shortly after the women fled, but in a tour of the neighborhood with Buckles, they quickly identified the culprits. According to police, the women have been charged with gang assault and possession of a weapon. Buckles was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital. It’s a safe bet that he’s learning to keep his comments to himself.
