Music Listings

Wednesday, September 13

The Gossip, Erase Errata, Mika Miko

Don’t tell anyone, but we hear The Gossip are, like, totally awesome.

Irving Plaza, 17 Irving Pl. (at 15th St.), 212-777-1224; 8, $14.50/$15.

Va Va China, The Grates, Soundpool, Phillip End, Elika

Australia’s The Grates are the sugary pop-punk band that got sent to detention for kissing all of the boys.

Piano’s, 158 Ludlow (at Stanton), 212-505-3733; 6:30, $8.

Rogue Wave, Jason Collett

Rogue Wave is either a rock band or a software company, so you will either be getting an entire night full of indie-pop or a demonstration of  programming C++. It’s a win-win proposition, really.

Warsaw, 261 Driggs Ave. (at Eckford St.), Brooklyn, 718-387-0505; 8, $15.

Roger Waters

If you close your eyes, it’s like a really half-assed laser light show at
the Planetarium.

Madison Square Garden, 4 Pennsylvania Plaza, 212-307-7171; 8, $39.50-$174.50.

Peter Frampton

Peter Frampton is the guy who made the talkbox famous…well, almost…

B.B. King's Blues Club & Grill, 237 W. 42 St. (betw. 7th & 8th Aves.), 212-997-4144; 8, $55-$60.

Thursday, September 14

M. Ward, Oakley Hall

After hours of extensive research, we’ve discovered that the ‘M’ stands for Matt. Huh… From now on, we’ll be coming out in favor of the air of mystery surrounding
rock ’n’ roll.

Webster Hall, 125 E. 11th St. (betw. 3rd & 4th Aves.), 212- 353-1600; 7:30, $20.

Annuals, Takka Takka, Femme Generation, A Brief Smile

When did The Flaming Lips become their own genre, anyway? Whenever it was, you can bet The Annuals were standing in the front of that line.

Sin-e, 150 Attorney St. (at Stanton St.), 212-388-0077; 9, $8.

Celtic Frost

Celtic Frost’s classically-influenced black metal has been making you look like a pussy way before you
were born.

B.B. King's Blues Club & Grill, 237 W. 42 St. (betw. 7th & 8th Aves.), 212-997-4144; 7, $45/$50.

Jimmy Buffet

When future generations look back on the great men of the late-20th century, Mr. Buffet will no doubt top the list. Singer, author, entre-
preneur, reformed hippy and much more—the “Margaritaville” singer is one of the true renaissance men of our time.

Madison Square Garden, 4 Pennsylvania Plaza, 212-307-7171; 8, $56.00-$196.00.

Brazilian Girls

Brazilian girls in Brazilian Girls? Negative. More like Three Dudes & a Chick from Rome with a bossa-nova-meets-electronica vibe.

Spiegeltent, Fulton Street Fish Market at South Street Seaport (by the Brooklyn Bridge); 10, $30.

Friday, September 15

Man Man, Tiny Masters of Today

Man Man answers that age old question: what would Tom Waits sound like falling down a flight of stairs?

Maxwell’s, 1039 Washington St. (at 11th St.), Hoboken, 201-798-0406; 9, $10.

Dirty Projectors

The Dirty Projectors’ music is weird, even for Brooklyn experimental music.

Cake Shop, 152 Ludlow St. (betw. Stanton & Rivington Sts.), 212-253-0036; 8, $7.

Zero 7, Sia José Gonzalez

Supremely Garden State-ish, heartstring-tugging tunes. Come prepared to make out.

Webster Hall, 125 E. 11th St. (betw. 3rd & 4th Aves.), 212- 353-1600; 6:30, $25/$30.

Saturday. September 16

Electric Six, Aberdeen City, Liam & Me

Electric Six had a big hit with their second single, “Gay Bar,” and sparked a small controversy with their video for the Queen cover, “Radio Ga Ga,” which featured a Freddie Mercury look alike, drinking at a bar with a pack of poodles. Vaguely upsetting dance rock never seemed so enduring.

Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey St. (betw. Bowery & Chrystie Sts.), 212-533-2111; 9, $17/$20.

Magnolia Electric Co., Bottomless Pit, Shearwater

Jason Molina changed the name of his Neil Young-inspired folk-rock group from Songs: Ohia to Magnolia Electric company in 2003, presumably because colons tend not to test well with the 18 to 25-year-old demographic.

Knitting Factory, 74 Leonard St. (betw. B'way & Church St.), 212-219-3132; 7, $14.

Dan Bern w/ Hamell on Trial, Brad Barr (The Slip)

You can spend the rest of your life writing introspective folk, but you’ll never be able to live down the legacy of writing a song about Tiger Woods’ balls.

Irving Plaza, 17 Irving Pl. (at 15th St.), 212-777-1224; 7, $18.50/$20.

Sunday, September 17

Sick of it All

Yeah, well, after 20 years of playing in the same hardcore outfit, you’re bound to get sick of something.

B.B. King's Blues Club & Grill, 237 W. 42 St. (betw. 7th & 8th Aves.), 212-997-4144; 7, $15/$17.

Tortoise, The Notekillers

Math and rock. Two great tastes, together at last.

Bowery Ballroom, 6 Delancey St. (betw. Bowery & Chrystie Sts.), 212-533-2111; 8, $20.

The Fleshtones, Reigning Sound, The Dansettes, The Fabulous Soul Shakers, The Coydogs

A night of soul music and ’60s garage. Try not to double-park your Vespa.

Magnetic Field, 97 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, 718-834-0069; 11 a.m., free.

Who’s Next: The Ultimate Who Tribute

Who are you? No, seriously.

B.B. King's Blues Club & Grill, 237 W. 42 St. (betw. 7th & 8th Aves.), 212-997-4144; Midnight, $1/$5.
