Some comedy fares better over time than others. While Carrot Top looks destined for the dark annals of comedic obscurity, Monty Python's work still seems as fresh and irreverent as it did in 1969. On the heels of winning three Tony awards for Spamalot, the Broadway adaptation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Film Forum is hosting a virtual orgy of Python with Pythonalot, featuring every Monty production ever to grace the big screen. The two-week festival kicks off with the classics: Holy Grail, Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life, before transitioning to more fringe works involving fractions of the group. Terry Gilliam (director and animator of their iconic, Victorian-looking cartoons) will be on hand for serious Python junkies at the Oct. 3 screening of Time Bandits (just in time for his new film Tideland, which opens Oct. 13). And if knights who say "Ni" aren’t your idea of fun, a tub of processed meat might sweeten the deal: Festival patrons will have a chance to win such prizes as tickets to Spamalot and special edition cans of Spam. So start clapping your coconut shells now.
Sept. 22-Oct. 5. Film Forum, 209 W. Houston St. (betw. 6th & 7th Aves.), 212-727-8110.
