Global Rhythm: Ladysmith Black Mambazo

By Jerry Portwood

Two decades ago, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the South African a cappella group, wowed the world when they appeared on Paul Simon’s Graceland album. Now they’re back with Long Walk to Freedom, which includes a roster of stellar female pop talent like Emmylou Harris and Melissa Etheridge. To help them celebrate during their Carnegie Hall engagement, the group is joined by a few ’90s notables that we haven’t heard from in a while—Natalie Merchant and Sarah McLachlan—as well as the Mahotella Queens, Vusi Mahlasela and Pete Seeger with his grandson and fellow acoustic strummer, Tao Rodriguez Seeger. Let the feel-good vibes begin.

Oct. 17. Carnegie Hall, corner of 57th St. & 7th Ave., 212-247-7800; 8, $21-$72.
