Mayor Michael Bloomberg recently announced that the percentage of unemployed New York City residents decreased by 0.3 percent from August to September. The City followed the trend of falling unemployment rates across the nation, which fell by 0.1 percent. Things are certainly looking up—unless you work for NBC. The media company announced that it plans to cut jobs when it moves its cable news channel MSNBC from Secaucus, N.J., to NBC’s Rockefeller Plaza headquarters. Company representatives have reported that the cuts will come from its newsgathering team, which currently provides about 6,000 jobs. Reports indicate that NBC could boot anywhere from 300 to 700 employees to cut costs. If the company really needs to make some serious cuts, the first thing to go should be “Last Call with Carson Daly,” whose host is about as exciting as a bag of Ben Stein on Valium.
