It’s been a big week for chauffeurs: Comptroller Alan Hevesi’s driver had a date with a grand jury on Friday. Nick Acquafredda, the state employee who drove around Hevesi’s ailing wife for more than three years, testified on behalf of the prosecution. On the other side of the law, Yoko Ono’s driver, Koral Karsan, was jailed for allegedly attempting extortion. Karsan is accused of threatening to kill Ono and her son, Sean, and to release embarrassing pictures and recordings of her unless she paid up $2 million. Though a $250,000 bond was ready to be posted, he was ordered to remain in custody because the Turkish driver could be an “illegal alien.” Sounds like Karsan could’ve benefited from that old driver’s ed advice: keep your eyes on the road.
