Written by and starring Ronnie Koenig, Dirty Girl is based on her real-life experience as editor-in-chief of Playgirl magazine from 2000-2002. She plays Dori Richter—picture Anna Wintour but a nice Jewish girl from Long Island instead of a crusty curmudgeon from hell—whose life is forever changed when she answers an ad in the newspaper seeking a “writer/editor who must be comfortable with male nudity.” Intrigued (and probably figuring, “Who doesn’t like the male form in all its cuddly furriness?”) Dori accepts the position and is launched into a world of steamy photo shoots and artfully placed sock puppets (it’s a euphemism). But as Dori becomes increasingly familiar with the inner workings of the porn industry, she becomes increasingly confused about what sex has to do with it. So she embarks on a quest to find a woman who is actually turned on by the so-greasy-you-couldn’t-do-them-if-you-wanted-to men featured in Playgirl. Dori might’ve had better luck if she had been searching for other men who found these guys appealing, as they don’t exactly have that whole I-like-breasts thing going on. Hopefully, Dori will ultimately find the confidence and understanding to make good porn for heterosexual women—now that would be a happy ending.
