CRIME BLOTTER

Distrust-worthy Individuals

By Doug Black

Sometimes, it’s those holding the most scrupulous positions in our society who pose the biggest threats. Such is the case of Albert Hsu, a well-respected hedge fund manager, husband, father of two and former Cub Scout leader. His level of neighborhood respect plummeted shortly after he was arrested recently for arranging the abduction and rape of his former lover using the Internet fetish site “CollarMe.com.” Masquerading as his former flame, Hsu made a post requesting someone who would carry out the brutal crimes as a supposed sexual fantasy of hers. He requested potential abductors to avoid contacting her about it, as it would “ruin the fantasy.” As it turned out, the only fantasy that was ruined was the one in which Hsu isn’t a maniacal pervert.

Also, a Bronx youth counselor at a state-run center for troubled juveniles was caught in an equally incongruous position. Tasked with straightening out troubled kids as a profession, Milagros Daniels regularly dealt with substance abuse cases. Daniels, however, ran into her own drug problem—namely that of trying to sell $10,000 worth of heroin to an undercover cop. She had apparently been running a lucrative drug business for quite some time, occasionally selling bags with labels such as “Merry Christmas,” and even pushing dope while on the clock at the youth center. Not surprisingly, her job at the facility is a thing of the past. Something tells me the whole “do as I say, not as I do” maxim just didn't cut the holiday-themed bag of heroin.
