SPRING BREAK RADICALS
By Doug Black
If there was any lingering question that today’s student anti-war movement rivaled that of the Vietnam era, last week helped put it to rest. Revolution was in the air as young protesters united in opposition to a foreign war under the banner of a ‘60s-era student organization—with less than revolutionary results. In the lead-up to the fourth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, 100 members from local chapters of the recently-revived Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) (which originally disbanded in 1969 and reorganized last year) descended on the Chambers Street Armed Forces Recruiting Center to protest the Iraq war. After a couple hours, police arrested 20 members and the rest voluntarily dispersed.
