Writer's (Angel) Block

With Stay, Lucy Thurber has written a heartfelt and (it seems) deeply personal play about “allowing yourself to be an adult and actually staying in the life that you made for yourself.” And she’s proud of it. Her intriguing new play at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater is about a young, successful writer named Rachel who supposedly discovered an angel who bestowed her with certain words to live by. Now that Rachel’s teaching MFA students at a university, she has to determine how to impart those words to others—specifically an obsessed female student who also has “magical” powers of her own—when her cherished muse is finally gone. Sounds like something that people will stay to see.

Through April 15, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, 224 Waverly Pl. (betw. Perry & W. 11th Sts.), 212-868-4444; Wed.-Sat. 8; Sun. 7, $20-$40.
