The gruesome Annie Leibovitz photo of deceased “Soprano” characters, from the April issue of Vanity Fair, comes alive when the Museum of Television & Radio wakes the same dead folk to present “The Whacked Soparanos.” Adriana La Cerva, Big Pussy, Richie Aprile and Tony Blundetto (aka Drea de Matteo, Vincent Pastore, David Prova and Steve Buscemi) will unearth their unique perspectives on how to lose your head when everyone else is keeping theirs. Better still, series creator David Chase is also scheduled to attend. Will he be able to get through the 90-minute chat fest without giving away at least one spoiler about the finale? Bryant Gumbel moderates because, really, when the topic is NJ Mafia rub-outs, who else is there for the job?
An Irish mob takes the same stage a week later with “Simply Absurd: The Comedy of Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” Making up in hair what he lacks in chin, O’Brien is heir apparent to Jay Leno and the coveted “Tonight Show” dynasty. He bides his time by perfecting his craft in the early a.m. and doing personal appearances like this one. Joining him will be his head writer, Mike Sweeney, as well as the writers for his other body parts: Michael Gordon, Brian McCann and Brian Stack—better known to the show’s aficionados as Kilty McBagpipes.
Whacked Sopranos: March 28, Museum of Television & Radio, 25 W. 52nd St. (betw. 5th & 6th Aves.),212-621-6800, 6:00 p.m., $30; The Comedy of Late Night with Conan O’Brien: April 5; 7:30, $30.
