XPOOCHES ON PATROL

By Doug Black

In the eyes of the City Parks Department, dogs are officially preferable to geese. In a provisional test to lower Central Park’s goose population, the department has introduced a pair of professionally trained Border Collies to act as an “environmentally-safe method” for ridding the grounds of Canada geese. Dubbed the “Geese Police,” trainers will accompany the dogs in a 24-hour patrol designed to scare off the bothersome fowl charged with sullying the landscape with their noxious droppings. Granted, anyone who’s accidentally tromped through a pile of canine waste knows it’s no picnic. But seriously, look how cute they are!
