THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT

Some 650 child welfare workers may be getting axed as part of a restructuring plan of the Administration for Children’s Services. The ACS plans to put the plan into action over the next 15 months, and ACS Commissioner John Mattingly swears to help all of the workers find new jobs. But don’t worry too much about the kiddies those 650 helped. Although there will be a subtraction of welfare workers, at least some kids will have an addition of cash to their pockets later this year. Mayor Bloomberg announced that in an effort to combat poverty, Opportunity NYC, a program launching this fall, will offer low-income families money for completing certain tasks. This includes giving kids the chance to earn extra cash for scoring well on tests and even for attending school. Uh, too late to re-enroll?
