WORLD POLICE

The freshly appointed head of the United Nations hopes to further strain an NYPD currently embroiled in legal woes and recruitment shortages by sending them out of the country. Ban Ki-moon, who succeeded Kofi Annan as secretary general earlier this year, met with Mayor Bloomberg recently and asked permission to ship local police officers overseas to help U.N. peacekeeping missions by training foreign police forces. The mayor quickly left the meeting with no official response to Ban’s request, likely reflecting anxieties about the NYPD’s failure to meet recent recruitment goals. Either that, or he really had to pee.
