GOOBERS BE GONE

With the 2008 Summer Olympics rapidly approaching, Beijing is gearing up by updating street signs and building state-of-the-art stadiums. But the local government is also going to great lengths to improve another aspect of the city—the people. It seems spitting has become a major problem for the Chinese capital and an even bigger source of embarrassment. So with the world watching, Beijingers are getting a crash course in how to swallow their loogies. Maybe Mayor Bloomberg should have taken on similar campaigns when he was trying to win the 2012 Olympics for NYC, then we wouldn’t have lost out to the gents across the pond in London.
