Retail giant J.C. Penney announced last week that it is opening its first NYC store, despite the fashion capital’s less than welcoming attitude to other low-cost venues like WalMart. The comeback kid of the department store world will be putting its two cents into Midtown’s Manhattan Mall, where it will have about 150,000 square feet and the chance to compete with nearby department store behemoth Macy’s. Recently, the Penney has been improving its brand by adding more fashion labels to its repertoire and a new tagline, Every Day Matters. Obviously, J.C. Penney is hoping that it still matter to New Yorkers.
