Young print journos everywhere breathed a sigh of relief last week when they learned that the industry may not be dying after all. A study made public on April 24 by Scarborough Research revealed that newspaper audiences are growing when you take online readership into account. The optimistic report is likely to be a topic of discussion this week in New York, where the Newspaper Association of America will host its annual conference May 6-9 at the Marriott Marquis. This year’s predominant theme is “transition”—workshops listed on the schedule include “Journalism in Transition,” “Managing in Transition,” “Audience in Transition” and “Younger Readers in Transition.” Unfortunately, the workshops “Salaries in Transition” and “Job Security in Transition” didn’t seem to make the cut.
