NYC Falls Short

According to a report released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) last Wednesday, New York fell behind 13 other cities in a ranking of the best department-to-department communications—a problem that allegedly cost the lives of firefighters who couldn’t hear their police counterparts on 9/11. The DHS said interoperable communications have improved since 9/11, but they still aren’t great. Of course, New Yorkers understand, it’s only been five years. What could the government possibly do in that amount of time? The good news is that Washington, D.C. ranked as one of the top cities on the report, now we know who the government officials were worried about making safer after 9/11.
