MOVIN’ ON UP

With the Plaza Hotel set to reopen for its 100th anniversary on Oct. 1, developer Elad Properties would best be served by some signed leaseholders. It is not yet known if any of the retail space has been claimed; though rumor has it many bidders are currently eyeing the hotel. Fret no more: A $56 million contract has been set in stone for the yet-to-be renovated triplex penthouse of the Plaza. For that price, the prospective buyer—said to be a London-based oil tycoon—will be acquiring 9,200 square feet of prime real estate, including a 500-square-foot terrace overlooking Central Park. All in all, the place is about the size of five or six one-bedroom apartments, combined. The sale constitutes the most expensive Manhattan apartment deal to date. Go up north a ways, however, and it looks like piddles. Ron Baron will close in June on his $103 million 40-acre parcel located next to his estate in East Hampton. But he’s getting suckered: There’s not even a house in the deal.
