CRIME BLOTTER

A Time To Steal

By Doug Black

Just like playing the stock market, it’s best to weigh risks and gains when committing crime. A pair of armed robbers in the West Village clearly ignored this last week. On May 27th, Niemah Baldwin, 19, and Deshawn Banks, 27, allegedly demanded a measly $20 from a man they threatened with a box cutter and firearm. The devilish duo fled the scene only to be nabbed by cops shortly thereafter, before they had a chance to blow their booty on a single West Village appetizer.
A Bushwick store clerk could have also used a lesson in the appropriate use of force. When Hicham Hsainou, 26, saw a customer swipe a single beer on the night of May 29, he slashed the miscreant with a meat cleaver instead of taking the miniscule financial hit. The thief was later charged with petty larceny, and Hsainou faces assault charges, likely making it the most expensive beer in either of their lives.
