CRIME BLOTTER
When Consumers Attack
By Doug Black
Sometimes, customer service isn’t up to snuff, but there are always better ways to voice your displeasure than throwing a public tantrum. A clothing store in East Flatbush was turned into a veritable battlefield when Lunique Menard, 23, attempted to return a pair of pants, shoes and a shirt on July 21. A sales clerk refused her request, so Menard threatened to stay put until her request was granted. When that didn’t work, she proceeded to throw perfume bottles around the store, one of which struck the clerk’s leg. When police responded to the scene, Menard was charged with assault, menacing and criminal mischief, but at least she smelled great.
And on July 24 at a local McDonald’s, a Coney Island woman requested hazelnut flavoring for her coffee, unaware that it would cost more. Natasha Blake, 27, proceeded to flip her lid, screaming and hurling coins at the poor manager, one of which inflicted a cut below her eye. Blake was arrested after a brief struggle, but remained oblivious to the colossal irony of throwing money over a minor price discrepancy.
