DREAM LIVING

Wednesday, July 12,2006

From stocky, wooden furniture to self-drying jeans, “Living the Dream: The Future of Responsible Living” showcases what artists can create with sustainable materials. But don’t expect to be amused for more than 15 minutes; what’s supposed to reflect organic futurism in the modern era is not much more than shabby, lumber tables and plastic chairs. While the displays prove to be substandard, its purpose to educate is superb: Learn how Ingeo, the first man-made fiber from 100 percent renewable resources, can inspire an entire fashion line of comfy, everyday wear. The highlight of the show is indeed, a fantasy come true: a contemporary outfit inspired by magical pixies known as the “Poppy Fairy Dressylang” by Elisa Jimenez. The feminine outfit is a multi-usable piece in rich, tangerine tones boiled in vanilla oil, rosewater and hibiscus tea. Although you may leave the exhibit slightly unsatisfied, there’s plenty to be inspired by to create more DIY gear.
