Two years ago my mother and I lugged all of my meager possessions from toddler-overrun Park Slope to single-friendly Fort Greene: a mile and half jaunt spurred by slightly lower rents and reported bohemian vitality. The new hood quickly lived up to the hype, so it came as a surprise that on two recent weekend visits to sleek, new neighborhood joint 67 Burger baby boomers and stylish, silver-haired septuagenarians occupied most tables. I can only assume that the seniors find the restaurant’s pale blue and squeaky-clean, unembellished interior soothing—or are in serious need of a meat-and-bun fix.
Orders of any of 11 modifiable burgers ($6.25-$9), as well as a chicken-heavy assortment of salads and sandwiches ($5.75-$8.75) are placed at the register and quickly delivered to each table by the friendly staff. The bacon cheeseburger was an easy success: flavorful despite being well-done (as requested by my friend) and covered in crumbled bacon and cheddar cheese. Replacing beef with the lean turkey burger, turned out to be as big a hit. But don’t think veggies are left out; they’re accommodated by four burgers with tasty toppings: feta, olives, pesto, shaved parmesan, cream cheese and sprouts.
The restaurant also boasts generous portions, bottomless sodas (including Bosco) and crisp, tasty, hard-to-find curly fries ($3.95). They’re misrepresented as spicy but, nonetheless, would remain a favorite if priced more reasonably. Come summer, the retractable glass walls for the back patio and sidewalk should entice more youthful scenesters come summer.
