The Chocolate Room

. . . . . . .
In Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Augustus Gloop can’t resist the temptations of the chocolate river. In the reality of Park Slope, The Chocolate Room lures similar cocoa lovers into its fantasy world, where you can gorge on decadent desserts for dinner.

My friend and I first chose the Snow Mint Chocolate Float ($6.50), a soda and ice cream concoction that I couldn’t finish because of a slight medicinal flavor resembling Target brand NyQuil. The award-winning Chocolate Layer Cake ($5.50) made a good palette cleanser—moist, not too sweet with a lusciously rich fudgy frosting. Save stomach space for The Chocolate Room Pudding ($5.00), which has a mousse-like consistency. A dollop of stiff whipped cream balances its slightly bitter aftertaste with a hint of vanilla, and the dark chocolate heart nestled atop is just plain cute. My favorite treat, a molten chocolate cake, is only offered seasonally, and tragically, the time for that brand of hot, gooey, brownie batter-like goodness is over for the year.

With vintage tile floors, warm lighting and a French café feel, this is a great date place—as long as you quit stuffing your face before you feel too sick to smooch. Or go with a friend and talk about going to the gym later—even though you won’t.
