I’m a card-carrying victim of Attention Deficit Disorder and love party hopping, so I can make a quick exit before things get dull. But starting my weekend off with three parties between 5 and 10—all in Brooklyn, all with open bars—was risky. In retrospect, I’m grateful no major tragedies occurred. I didn’t lose my ATM card. I didn’t pick a fight with any cab drivers or strangers. I only fell down once.

The fun began on the dance floor of St. Ann’s Warehouse at a benefit for the Wooster Group. Casey Spooner of Fischerspooner was DJing. Only one quarter of the room was full, near the bar and DJ booth. The star of their new show, La Didone, the alluring singer Hai-Ting Chinn, was holding court in the middle, wearing a sexy lowbacked silver top, showing off her triceps.

And there I was, grabbing my arm candy for the night and adding to the mix another sultry-eyed tall dude to flank me on the other side. Doing it with two guys is every girl’s dream, if only on the dance floor.

Remember Travolta in Saturday Night Fever? I was able to clear the floor but for different reasons. I grabbed hold of my coat and swung it over my head around and around. Then I flung it to the floor and immediately grabbed my friend by the waist and picked him up, tossing him in the air a bit, squealing in delight. He’s about 6’1”. He leaped back into my arms and we collapsed on the floor. A few moments later, I went over to one of the Wooster Group’s founders, Kate Valk, and picked her up, too. She was a bit dazed but not daunted. Fortunately, I was sensible enough to let Hai-Ting do her thing.

After about a half hour of calisthenics, when I was leaving for the next party, the Wooster Group’s general manager came running after me. “You’re Gerry Visco, right?” How the hell did he know?
