Pressed for Time: Howard Zinn and Guests: Voices of a Young Peoples History of the United States

By Joshua David Stein

Howard Zinn and Guests: Voices of a Young People’s History of the United States

May 13, 92nd Street Y, Lexington Avenue at E. 92nd Street, 212-415-5500; 8, $27

Howie has been on a roll recently. His People’s History “starring” Matt Damon and Viggo Mortensen recently screened at MoMA. Tonight Zinn presents one of his live readings of the people’s history—in this case, the young people’s history of the United States—with famous people reading the words of the lesser known. The former include Tim Robbins, The Tooch and, of course, Amber Tamblyn.

Bottom Line: The words of nobodies spoken by somebody. Completely counter to Zinn’s ideals, but what the hey? It’s fun to watch.
