The Costumers of Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet
May 27 through May 31, Time Warner Center, 10 Columbus Circle; FREEAs part of a week dedicated to all things Tuscan, dozens of costumes from the Florentine director Franco Zeffirelli’s sumptuous 1968 film Romeo and Juliet will be on display at the Time Warner Center. Granted, the best costume in that movie is no costume at all.When we watched the film in high school, I remember the shock and joy I felt when Juliet—played by the impossibly beautiful Olivia Hussey—bared her breasts.
Bottom Line: The movie won an Oscar for best costume design when it came out. Not to see the costumes as you leave Whole Foods would be a…tragedy. Zing.
