Pressed for Time: Martha Wainwright Sings Edith Piaf

By Joshua David Stein

Martha Wainwright Sings Edith Piaf

June 14 and 15, Dixon Place, 161A Chrystie St. (betw. Rivington & Delancey Sts.), 212-219- 0736; times vary, $25

Maybe nights devoted to iconic female singers runs in the Wainwright family. Rufus did Judy and now his sister Martha does Edith Piaf.Whatever. Martha’s voice is a bit scratchy and less operatic than her kin, but it’s a wonderful cognate for the scratchy and vulnerably voice of Piaf.

Bottom Line:
La Vie en Rose on the Lower East Side with the worthy heiress of a great musical legacy.
