Pressed for Time: The Spirit of the Beehive and La Strada

By Joshua David Stein

The Spirit of the Beehive and La Strada

Aug. 22, Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway (at W. 95th St.), 212- 864-5400; 7, $11

Before such idiocy as the Secret Life of Bees, there was the Spirit of the Beehive, Spanish director Victor Erice’s 1973 masterpiece. It features a very lonely and lovely young girl named Ana. Also playing tonight—double feature y’all—Fellini’s La Strada, which is no less wonderful for you probably having already seen it.

Bottom Line:
Really a no brainer for the cinephile or anyone trying to score points as sophisticated.
