Pressed for Time: Downtown Dance Festival

Downtown Dance Festival
Aug. 20, Chase Plaza, Nassau St. betw. Liberty & Pine Sts.; noon, FREE

Despite the last-minute consular issues faced by Georgian dance troupe Kolkha, causing it to cancel its first-ever U.S. performance, the Downtown Dance Festival, which runs through Aug. 23, will go on. Groups including Buglisi Dance Theatre, Eglevsky Ballet, New Chamber Ballet and the isadora- NOW company (pictured) will perform, and they won’t be Georgian, but they’ll be gorgeous.

Bottom Line: It might not get the folk-dance customs of a beleaguered Eastern European republic, but let’s face it, you need all the culture you can get.
