All Tomorrow's Planning

By Staff
. . . . . . .
Jim Jarmusch, David Cross and Sufjan Stevens haven’t all been in the same spot since that fateful night in the bathroom at Lit, but this weekend at All Tomorrow’s Parties, those studs and many more will be in attendance.

The three-day festival in Monticello, NY, is co-curated by the Flaming Lips and tickets run a whopping $235, but there’s more than just the same old bands to make the tickets worth it. From the first New York show from the Jesus Lizard in forever to Suicide performing its first record all the way through to film programming from Criterion on all three days. But with so much to do and only so many sober moments in a day, however will you plan your weekend? No fear, dear reader, here is our list of can’t-miss events.

And be sure to visit nypress.com for daily updates from Monticello.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 11

The Feelies play Crazy Rhythms in its entirety beginning at 4:45. About 30 minutes in, “Moscow Nights” will start and everything will be right with the world.

Suicide will perform its self-titled LP starting at 7:30.

Panda Bear takes the stage at 9, and will probably be great and make the haters like us shut up about all his hype.

The Comedy Stage will open up at 9, but Eugene Mirman won’t stumble on until around 10:30. Make sure to be there.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 12

Sufjan Stevens plays at 1:30. If you want to meet someone to have an awkward emo hookup with, this is the time and place to do it.

Stop by the game room, where famed record producer Steve Albini will be hosting a game of poker. Remember how much you loved Surfer Rosa, then kick his ass at cards.

Boss Hog is probably the best-looking rock band in the world. At 10 it will take the stage.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 13

If you haven’t been for a ride on the adultsized swings, do so after your hangover wears off but before lunch.

At noon, Oneida will kick off an afternoon of improv, performance and recording with various special guests. (See above for more info).

Jim Jarmusch will host a screening of Mystery Train followed by a Q&A.

Someone, ask what Clairol number he uses!

Closing out the fest, No Age will play with Bob Mould. The supergroup will do Hsker D songs, which ones, however, is not yet clear.
