Chili Pepper Fiesta

Oct. 3, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, 1000 Washington Ave. (at Montgomery St.), Brooklyn, 718-623-7200; noon-6:30, $8

In some parts of the country (cf. New Mexico) chilis aren’t so much a foodstuff as a way of life. Today, chili fever comes to Brooklyn’s famed gardens where the focus is on chili and chocolate. Brooklyn chocolatiers, including nunu and Mast Brothers, mix up special chili chocolate confections while elsewhere chili finds its worldly, savory side manifest in the Korean cuisine of Moim Restaurant and the chutney of Bombay Emerald Chutney Company.

Bottom Line:
Spicy and versatile as a Latin twink, the chili is one of the most deserved foods to have a festival.
