Pressed for Time: A Century of Dance Music

Wednesday, February 3,2010

Feb. 6, Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker St. (betw. Thompson & Sullivan Sts.), 212-228-4854; 10, $25.

It’s not easy to think of reserved gray-haired sophisticate Ravel, composer of the catchy Bolero, as a house music demigod—but he was. It was just the houses looked different back then.Tonight, Mortiz Von Oswald, the Berlin DJ and inventor of technodub, presides over an evening in which the LPR house band reinterprets Ravel’s Bolero along technodub lines, before Von Oswald takes the stage with a brand new trio.

Bottom Line: Brainy, dance-y, historically connected house music.
