Pressed for Time: The Short Films of Al Jarnow

Wednesday, February 10,2010
Feb. 12, 92YTribeca, 200 Hudson St. (at Canal St.), 212-601-1000; 7 and 9, $12.

Why is it that avant-garde film cloaked as educational garb is dismissed so easily? Thus the truly revolutionary work of Al Jarnow, seen on everything from 3-2-1 Contact to Sesame Street explaining the higher functions of the world, were remanded to forgotten video libraries while the more abstract work of Jonas Mekas and Harry Smith have enjoyed multiple screenings. This event remedies that for one night, at least. Mr. Jarnow introduces, twice, this hour-long assemblage of some of his best short films.

Bottom Line: Discover the genius you always knew was behind PBS.
