Gas attack.

. . . . . . .

It’s a tragic story that’s all too common around New York in the wintertime. Combine closed windows, a leaky furnace and carbon monoxide fumes–and before you know it, some people are dead.

It happened again on Sunday night, with a man and woman living on the sixth floor of a Murray Hill apartment building dying after being overcome by fumes, and another couple on the fifth floor being rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The headlines on Monday morning were, for the most part, matter-of-fact. Both Newsday and the Daily News went with the straightforward "Two Dead in Gas Leak." Not surprisingly, the cover of the Post offered the more flamboyant "DEATH GAS."

But we have to imagine there were chuckles aplenty around the 1010 WINS newsroom at the decision there to run with the accurate, but questionable, "Silent But Deadly."
