Mash-up mavens The Hood Internet, whose output shares a lot of similarities with Girl Talk, have unleashed a fever dream of a mix with “Single Foxes (Put A Wood On It)”, which lays the vocals of Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” over a slice of the lovely Fleet Foxes track “Ragged Wood”.
The duo is releasing it as part of their year-end round up series of mixes they couldn’t quite make work, though DJ ABX admits “I put some extra work in to clean it up for this post, and now I kind of like it.” We really like it, especially when Fleet Foxes singer Robin Pecknold tries to get a word in only to have his plea for Bey-Z to come home cut off with a brusque “I’m not that kind of girl”. The addictive, hypnotic track sounds like a trippy number from a modern movie musical homage to The Umbrellas of Cherbourg starring Beyoncé, which we would be first in line to see the midnight show of should Ms. Knowles and the Foxes choose to do such a thing.

For more of their work, check out their mini-mix devoted to Lykke Li (including the killer “Dance, Dance, Dance In My Face” vs. The Fields) and the sprawling opening of their mixtape volume 3, which spins together Estelle, The Ting Tings, Rick Ross, Hercules & Love Affair, Chromeo, Rihanna, Cut Copy and The-Dream to thrilling effect.
