According to his artist's statement, David Foote wants to deepen the relationship between art and viewer "beyond the realm of an affair." Essentially, he's saying, you've come to see his eerie, stark, goth-chic "New Girls" paintings in the gallery for long enough—they want to move in with you.
The handsome and stylish artist has teamed up with 10 design companies to cover their products with his imagery, which he hopes to maneuver into bodily intimacy with his audience. The products include pillows, tees, soap bars, skis and shower curtains. The items are available on Foote's Web site, and there will be an opening reception for the series at BoConcept SoHo (69 Greene Street, betw. Spring and Boome Sts.) on Feb. 10 from 7 to 10. A portion of proceeds will benefit St. Jude's Research Hospital for childhood diseases. It's for them, really, but also for anyone who's studied a wall painting and thought, Gosh, if I had that on an ottoman...
