The Hard Rock Café hosted a Grammys party last night after the Recording Academy New York Chapter decided they were in the mood for some celebrating. After all, the music world is going through a rather harsh puberty at the moment, so merrymaking was certainly in order… Tiered dining tables, a jumbo screen as well as an open buffet and bar were all on hand as music’s night of nights unfolded with its usual pomp and history-in-the-making splendor. Sure, Rihanna was a no show but plenty of the world’s major musical talents descended on Los Angeles for a little song, a little dance and wayward attempts at glamour.
Coldplay’s ridiculous Sgt. Pepper-esque attire was the most unenviable fashion choice of the evening but points certainly go to P. Diddy’s lavender leather jacket, M.I.A.’s polka dot pregnancy gown and Kid Rock’s ‘Blues Brother on safari’ ensemble. Even Morgan Freeman added a little sass to his outfit, sporting a single black glove.
Most of the country were no doubt settled on their respective couches, nuzzling a six-pack and a few wings as Katy Perry arrived onstage via giant banana for ‘I Kissed a Girl’ but the Recording Academy made sure its guests (an assortment of members, Grammy nominees and industry folk) were all well looked after. The wine flowed, mini cheeseburgers were devoured and everyone just seemed to love the penne…
The food and booze was so plentiful in fact that a handful of guests even took to the Hard Rock stage for some booty-shaking during one of the countless collaborations which took part throughout the night: Chris Martin and Jay-Z mixed it up early on, the Jonas Brothers then kicked it with Stevie Wonder and even Radiohead got in on the fun performing with the University of Southern California marching band.
Amidst the broadcast’s potpourri of performances and presentations, NY Chapter Governor, Janice Pendarvis reaffirmed the special nature of the evening, brushing aside any issues of credibility or relevancy that such a large scale awards ceremony like the Grammys encounters.
“No matter what anybody says about it, at the end of the night, if you’re there and they call your name and you get that Grammy in your hand, then that’s a really special moment,” she said.
And the best thing about her night?
“Just the fact that I don’t have to cook, honey!”
