Move over junkies and speed freaks, church chimes are the new peeve of East Village complainers.
Signs were spotted by EV Grieve on St. Marks Place between First Avenue and Avenue A stating "End Church Chimes Annoyance" and suggesting neighbors call 311 and their community board members. Apparently the offending church changed its tune from your basic bell ring to a more flirtatious chime, nauseating the neighborhood.
Sure it might suck to be introduced to your Sunday morning hangover by cutesy bells at 9 a.m., but isn’t it more annoying to enter the labyrinth of automated voices, endless holding sessions and elevator music just to bitch about a church?
