The emptiness echoing through Bushwick is starting to take a toll on its inhabitants, and lack of suburban sporting options is taking its toll on the neighborhood's residents. Now a collective of locals has written a recipe to fill in the city’s void: a miniature-golf course, and they’re bringing the balls.
The Putting Lot, a work of art more than a sports center, will be up and running later this month. The theme behind the nine holes, each of which will be designed by an individual artist and/or architect, is urban sustainability—either “a critique of a current condition, a prediction for the future, or an example of sustainability in the present.” Whether you grab a snack, hang around and watch or get into the game, the point behind the place is to raise awareness. Or, you know, goof around in an ironic way that isn't completely beat yet.
