Vassalboro, Maine, is a quiet town—or it was—until one pioneering entrepreneur opened a topless coffee shop a few months ago. The Grand View Topless Coffee Shop (apparently the names Startits and Humptown weren't good enough) has burned down, apparently incinerated by an arsonist last night.
"I really liked it here," one waitress told CNN. "We weren't hurting anyone. I don't know why
someone would do something like this." Yeah, the perpetrator is such a boob.
Owner Donald Crabtree lives in the same building as his shop, and a passing Maine ambulance corps saved his family from the conflagration when, passing by, they happened to see the fire. The corps woke the Crabtrees, saving them from the fire that consumed their business. Crabtree has no insurance on the building, so he has been left, ironically enough, with just the shirt on his back. He still plans to rebuild the lucrative business, though, which reportedly brought 200 customers on opening day.
The Grand View has had its fare share of contraversy, angering some local residents. The town even considered banning nudity to shut down the shop (no joke), and an ordinance limiting nudity was slated for a vote on June 8th. Perhaps the arsonist was an angry citizen, looking to take Crabtree tit-for-tat.
