Feel like your tweets are under-appreciated? Everyone else seems to get tweet followers so easily, but you just aren't getting any. Well, pay for it. The Australian advertising company uSocial is selling Twitter followers. For $87, they promise to bring you 1,000 followers. If a 140-character recap of your dog walk is just too important for a measly 1,000 people, the company sells blocks of up to 100,000 followers.
The service already has 150 customers (companies or individuals looking to advertise, to be fair), though backlashes are always possible. When the furniture firm Habitat advertised on Iran threads, people weren't exactly gunning to snatch up their armoires. This advertising blitz could be the death knell for Twitter, the sign it will join Friendster and Napster in the scrap heap of internet phenoms. Seems like sites that end in -er are more likely to have a short shelf life.
