The Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch, also known as MCA, has recently been diagnosed with
cancer of the salivary gland. This means that the band has canceled all
remaining tour dates and postponed the release of their new album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1. Yauch claims to have felt a lump in his throat for a couple of months—a feeling similar to having swollen glands—but only while doing promotional work in Europe decided it was necessary to go to his doctor. He got checked out two weeks ago and found out that the cancer hadn’t spread anywhere else in his body.
Fans may be upset but Yauch says that “the good news is…it’s not in a place that affects my voice.” He also says that the tumor is very treatable, so if surgery and radiation go well, the Beastie Boys will be back in the next few months.
