Edwidge Danticat's novels, The Farming of Bones and Brother, I'm Dying, and their depiction of Haitian immigrants have done more than garner critical acclaim for the Brooklyn writer; they just won her half-a-million dollars.
Danticat is among the 24 recipients of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation fellowships being announced today reports the New York Times. She and her fellow "genius award" winners will each receive $100,000 a year for the next five years.
It's doesn't quite have the same ring (or jazzy, hunk-hosted ceremony) as an Emmy, but it comes with a hell of a paycheck.
