The innovators behind Ace Hotel know nothing says full service like a good gay porn selection, which is why the hipster hotel turned to BUTT magazine to curate its new gay porn on demand service, and the editors at BUTT were more than happy to put their talents as connoisseurs of vintage porn to use.
Starting Nov. 1, guests in the hotel’s New York City and Palm Springs locals can pay for the pleasuring of tuning in and, well, you knowing, to the carefully crafted series BUTT contributing editor Adam Baran calls “the best that porn has to offer.”
To say working on the film series got the editors at BUTT excited would be an understatement.
“We were all really thrilled, me especially, being a porno nut,” Baran said. "First and foremost what we liked was that we could bring the curatorial precision that we bring to our magazine to something as fun as gay porn on demand.”
It also didn’t hurt that the boys at BUTT got to add their personal porn obsessions into the mix with films like Al Parker’s Inches and director Joe Gage’s Men’s Room: Bakersfield Station and Al Eingang’s A Young Man From Nantucket ended up in the mix.
“Other times we tried to take a look at the historical angle of films like The Bigger, The Better, probably one of the best gay porn films of all times, and A Night At the Adonis is a fantastic film; you can watch it all the way through,” explained Baran. “We ended up trying to make it a historical time line of the best that porn has to offer right up until today.”
BUTT and Baran saw a, ahem, big gap in the gay porn provisions of hotels even before the project began.
“First of all, if you’ve ever traveled to a hotel and you’re a gay person, a couple things could happen: the hotel could not have any gay porn because most of the hotels are owned by Christian groups and Mormon groups who allow straight porn but no gay porn, or if you get porn it’s usually really generic—like the top five or six mainstream titles from five years ago—and it’s just really kind of a grab bag,” Baran said.
Baran said the porn series BUTT put together is anything but generic and he’s just glad to find a collaborator in Ace willing to cater to the tastes of the gay community or at least its $835 billion purchasing power.
“The Ace obviously has enough balls to really give a shit about making gay traveling experiences good, and rather than just stay in a sex motel or something sleazy like that, you can stay at the Ace where it feels like a really hip apartment you can turn on the TV and see personally curated, terrific gay porn.”
