When Jackie Roman was asked to contribute artwork to the Art That Rocks exhibition being held by 303 Grand this Friday, the rock photographer knew she had the perfect image: a photo she snapped last spring of Ex Humans guitarist Josh Martin, cigarette in hand, licking his guitar case while running down Grand Street late to a gig at Trash.

“I was running to catch up with him and for some reason he just licked it, and I snapped it,” explained Roman. “I thought it was a really outrageous image that just rocks.”

Art That Rocks is part of PerkStreet Lounge’s grand opening Friday night at 303 Grand St. in Brooklyn. Guests who RSVP to the event, which starts at 7, will be treated to free beer and coffee while checking out work by artists including Roman, Eric Foss, owner of club-gallery Lit on the Lower East Side, and Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

PerkStreet will be open for only three weeks—Nov. 5 through Nov. 22—as a lounge and event space.  It will offer free beer, coffee and WiFi to the public daily from noon to 8, and special events throughout its three-week existence. Anyone interested in special events can RSVP here.
